U.S. elite triathletes Seth Wealing and Susie Gallucci gave
strong performances on Sunday at the Salford International
Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup in England.Wealing (Remington, Ind.) took the race lead on the run and led
until the last lap, when cramps slowed him down and he was
passed by 14 other racers. He finished the race 15th in 1 hour,
55 minutes, 2 seconds.
The top-20 placing moved Wealing up from 72nd to 66th in the
men's ITU world rankings.
Great Britain's Andrew Johns won the men's race, completing the
1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 1:53:50. Craig Watson of New
Zealand was second in 1:53:53 and Martin Krnavek of Czech
Republic was third in 1:54:00.
Gallucci (Hudson, Ohio) came out of the water with the leaders
and joined the first pack on the bike. She ended up finishing
18th in 2:07:17. Pip Taylor of Australia won the women's race in
2:03:05. Carol Montgomery of Canada was second in 2:03:57 and
Joelle Franzmann of Germany was third in 2:04:03.
Gallucci's U.S. teammate Julie Swail (Irvine, Calif.), a member
of the U.S. team for the Pan American Games, finished 22nd.
Gallucci has moved up in the ITU world rankings from 81st to
73rd. Swail moved up from 112th to 96th.

On Sunday in Lake Placid, N.Y., U.S. elites Gina Kehr (Redwood
City, Calif.) and Chris Lieto (Danville, Calif.) each finished
second at the Ironman USA race.
Kehr completed the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile
run in 9:55:18. Canadian Heather Fuhr won her 13th Ironman race
in 9:51:55. Joanna Lawn of New Zealand was third in 10:00:33.
Kirill Litovtsenko of Estonia won the men's race in 8:46:15.
Lieto was second in 8:53:24. Australia's Jason Shortis was third
in 8:56:24.

Finally, in Lake Stevens, Wash., Greg Watson (Newark, Del.) and
Cecily Tynan (Philadelphia, Pa.) were the elite winners at the
DANNON Duathlon series race.
Watson completed the 5k run, 30k bike and 5k run in 1:18:06.
Tynan completed it in 1:32:35.
