U.S. elite triathlete Seth Wealing placed third and Becky Gibbs
Lavelle was fourth at the Victoria ITU International Triathlon
on Sunday in Canada.Canada's Jill Savege and Simon Whitfield, the 2000 men's Olympic
gold medalist, were the overall winners. Savege completed the
Olympic distance, draft-legal event in 2 hours, 7 minutes, 54
seconds. Whitfield completed the men's race in 1:53:59.
New Zealand's Bevan Docherty was second among the men in 1:54:11
and Wealing (Remington, Ind.), the U.S. men's national champion,
was third in 1:54:45.
The race served as Canada's elite national championships and Pan
American Games qualifier.
U.S. elite Kevin Carter (Silver Spring, Md.) was eighth in the
men's race (1:57:58) and Brian Lavelle (Cupertino, Calif.) was
20th.
The Canadian women swept the women's podium with Carol
Montgomery finishing second (2:08:52) and Gillian Moody placing
third (2:09:54).
Lavelle (Cupertino, Calif.) finished the women's race fourth in
2:10:07.
Kelly Rea (Marietta, Ga.) finished sixth (2:10:28) and Alexis
Waddel (San Ramon, Calif.) was 13th (2:13:29).

In other weekend races, U.S. elites Michael Lovato (Boulder,
Colo.) and Heather Gollnick (Hartford, Wis.) won the men and
women's titles Ironman Coeur d'Alene on Sunday in Idaho.
Lovato completed the 2.4-mile swim, 114-mile bike and 26.2-mile
run in 8 hours, 40 minutes, 59 seconds. Gollnick, who was the
ninth finisher overall, finished in 9:42:08.

Finally, U.S. elites Joanna Zeiger (Baltimore, Md.) and James
Bonney (Austin, Texas) won the Buffalo Springs Lake Half Ironman
on Sunday in Lubbock, Texas.
Zeiger completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile
run in 4:33:41. Bonney finished in 4:19:36.
