In an effort to raise money for victims of the terrorist attacks
on the
World Trade Center, Trilogy and Hospice Austin have rescheduled
an annual
fundraising triathlon and added events that will allow citizens
of all ages
to participate. The "Austin Race To The Rescue," which will include
the annual Trilogy
Triathlon as well as a 5K and 1K Freedom Fun Run and Walk, is
scheduled for
Oct. 27 and will benefit The World Trade Center Relief Fund.
The Triathlon, which is sanctioned by USA Triathlon, begins at 7
a.m.
The 5K Freedom Fun Run and the 1K Freedom Fun Run and Walk will
start at 10
a.m. A post race party and awards ceremony will follow the
events. All
events will take place at Trilogy headquarters, 5001 Plaza on
the Lake off
Capital of Texas Highway.
"We want this to be a celebration of the American
spirit," said Trilogy
founder and CEO Joe Liemandt. "We want to send a message that
the great
citizens of Austin support those who have been directly affected
by the
terrorist attacks and we share their pain. Our fundraising
effort, like so
many others, is a sign that our country's spirit cannot be
broken."
Marjorie Mulanax, executive director of Hospice Austin, agreed
and said,
"As a society, we bear a certain amount of responsibility to
look out for
one another. Organizations like Trilogy and charities like
Hospice Austin do
that for the local community on a daily basis. Now is our chance
to do that
for those affected by the terrorist attack on Sept. 11th."
Registration is $55 for the Triathlon and $20 for the 5K.
Children 15
and under can join their parents in the 5K for $10 each. The 1K
is free
although a contribution is requested.
"This is the weekend before Halloween, so we encourage
children of all
ages to wear their Halloween costumes," said Liemandt. "We'll
have
treats
and other activities for them after the races."
Registration is available online using Visa, Mastercard or
Discover at
http://www.signmeupsports.com/ through Oct. 25 or in person at
Austin
TriCyclist at 923 Barton Springs Rd. through Oct. 26. A table
will also be
available in Trilogy's lobby, at 5001 Plaza on the Lake, Oct.
15 - 27, for
registration and donations. Advance registration is required for
the
Triathlon, but participants can register for the 5K and 1K on
the day of the
event.
The Trilogy Triathlon was originally scheduled for October 13,
but after
the terrorist attacks on September 11, organizers from Trilogy
and Hospice
Austin agreed to use the event to raise money for the relief
effort and to
add the 5K and 1K so more citizens could participate.
