U.S. athletes heat up winter triathlon and duathlon

The U.S. relay team of Neal
Henderson, Jimmy Archer and Mason Rickard outlasted snowy
conditions and
placed 10th on Saturday at the International Triathlon Union
(ITU)
Winter Triathlon World Championships in Brusson, Italy.
It was the first time a relay had been part of the winter world
championships. Each team member did one lap of each discipline -
run,
mountain bike and cross-country skiing.
The men's team from Switzerland won the elite relay in 1 hour, 27
minutes, 36 seconds. Germany was second (1:28:48) and Norway
third
(1:28:55). The U.S. team finished in 1:42:28.
In the individual race, Henderson (Boulder, Colo.) placed 32nd
and
Rickard (Denver, Colo.) 33rd.
Marc Ruhe of Liechtenstein won the men's elite race - a 7K run,
12K
mountain bike and 10K ski - in 1:29:44. Christoph Mauch of
Switzerland
was second and Benjamin Sonntag of Germany third.
Marianne Vlasveld of the Netherlands won the women's race in
1:45:04.
