Eleven U.S. women and 10 U.S. men are scheduled to compete Sunday (Nov. 4) in the final International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Cup race of the season in Cancun, Mexico.

Barb Lindquist (Jackson, Wyo.), ranked fourth in the world, will lead the U.S. contingent and will also be the top-ranked woman in the competition. Lindquist is coming off second-place finishes at the Los Angeles Triathlon, the Goodwill Games and the U.S. elite national championships. Forty-eight women have registered for the race.

Siri Lindley (Boulder, Colo.), who is ranked No. 1 in the world and who won the Cancun World Cup last year, will not compete due to a sprained ankle.

Joe Umphenour (Seattle, Wash.), ranked 34th, is the top-ranked U.S. man competing. A field of 79 men, including No. 1 Chris Hill of Australia, is scheduled to race.

The final ITU World Cup will be a draft-legal race at the Olympic distance - 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run. The weather in Cancun is predicted to be warm with scattered thunderstorms.
