The following article was written by Bobby Riggins, one of the
cyclists involved in the auto-bike accident. This morning (January 29) the punishment hearing was held for
Kevin Wayne Riddle who had previously pled guilty to criminally
negligent homicide with a deadly weapon for the death of Bruce
Maughs and the injury to Tim
Hunt, Barbara Carlson and myself. Tim, Barbara and I each
testified today as did Ginger Maughs. Kevin Wayne Riddle took
the stand to plead for leniency but, I think, hurt his case by
being defensive and never
taking responsibility for the crime despite shedding well-timed
tears. He also brought a bus load of supporters. Fortunately the judge could separate fact from fiction and
sentenced Kevin Wayne Riddle to 4 years in the Texas Department
of Corrections (most likely Huntsville). He will be eligible for
parole after serving 2 years. I greatly appreciate everyone's support and encouragement during
the last 18 months and look forward to putting this behind me.
It's now time to move on. Thanks again!
