Age group triathletes from around the country will be in Coeur
d'Alene,
Idaho, this weekend for the 2001 USA Triathlon Age Group National
Championships.
The event, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 1, will crown
national
champions in each age group and is also a qualifier for the 2002
International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon
Championships in
early November in Cancun, Mexico.
Over 800 age groupers from around the country are scheduled to
compete,
including many former national champions and world medallists.
"Coeur d'Alene is just a beautiful site for our age group
national
championships," said USA Triathlon Executive Director Steve
Locke. "I'm
looking forward to a challenging event."
The race will be Olympic distance (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run)
and
non-draft legal. Competitors will swim around Coeur d'Alene
Lake, and
then bike and run around the city of Coeur d'Alene.
The event is being directed by Round and Round Productions and
the Coeur
d'Alene Triathlon Foundation, in conjunction with USA Triathlon.
