Nearly 2000 runners and walkers took advantage of the first opportunity to register for the Compaq Houston Marathon on September 10 -- earning themselves a coveted "In Training" T- shirt in the process.

The registration total is an approximately 20% increase from last year's kickoff party numbers.

Once again, Compaq's "paperless" registration system (pictured) was a big hit with entrants, although Compaq officials also allowed runners to enter the old-fashioned pen-and-paper way to alleviate some long lines due to the event's popularity.
