Message: Further on ties...overall placements are generally based on gun time, not chip time. Local road races don't have photo finish cameras, but the people responsible for the finish line also have the responsibility for determining the order of finish. In the late 90's Jon Warren and Sean Wade ran the 20k step for step. At 12 miles they both started sprinting but were still step for step. They crossed the finish line together - one could have gotten the impression they had agreed to tie for the win. This would have been a problem for the race organizers as airline tickets were at stake. Anyway, the guy in charge of the finish line polled everybody at the finish line as to who they thought won. It was unanimous (fortunately) - Sean by an eyelash!

Message: Races in Sugar Land, Tx. at Finish Line Sports will continue with the policy of no duplication of awards. We put on 10-12 races a year and have been for 18 years.

Message: Well since Andy started this discussion and now has made up his mind I would suspect this should be the end of teh discussion. I don't agree with Andy or what he is doing, but I have done several of his races and he always does a good job so I will continue to support him when I can. I would also thank him for taking the refreshing step of asking the runners what they thought. Reguardless of the side you take it is nice to know he cares what you think. Nice job Andy!
