I have been running the Heights 5k for the past 8yrs. The run this year seemed to have many changes. 1) In the previous years I have received an "Early Bird" Entry Form, This was not sent out this year, and race fees were significantly higher this year. 2) Information concerning this race was hard to find, it was only on this website, normally it is on HARRA, in the newspapers and advertised in the Heights District. Neither my Grandmother or my 2 Aunts who live in the Heights saw anything on the race this year. 3) A race this large and this expensive should have 5 yr age groups as it has in the past, 10 yr age groups are very large for such a large and competitive run. 4) Normaly results are put out within a week, only the top 3 places are kept in each of the age groups. Will there be results? 5) It seems less and less is offered each year yet the race cost to the participants goes up and up.

The race did have great weather and was a ton of fun, the volunteers were great and there is always plenty of water.

While I cannot speak to any of the other issues you address in this year's event, I can say that we were provided results for the top three finishers in each age group last Thursday (it would have been better to have received them earlier than 5 days after the race, though).

Unfortunately, their arrival seemed to coincide with the problems with our results server, so we haven't been able to post them (that's not the event's fault, though).

As we do with all Houston-area results, we have formatted them and submitted them to the Chronicle. They should appear in this Thursday's issue. And as soon as our server problem is fixed, they'll be up on the site. They also will be in the July issue of our magazine.

If you guys are having problems with the server and cannot post the Heights run results then why did you post triathlon results for that same weekend. Also, why are some results posted from this past weekend from a race in Oklahoma. You cannot blame all this on the server.

Some of the results are done with a chip, making it easier to access the results, where as results from the Heights 5k were manually taken and have to be inputed into the computer and converted into a format for the website, thus the results only go three deep... The whole process would also go quicker if the RD sends in the results in a timely fashion.

This is the first year that there has ever been a delay, RTN is very quick and punctual with the results. Thats why so many people check the site.

Joe--

Easy answers to your questions.

Triathlon results from the same weekend were posted prior to any server problems (remember that we didn't receive the Heights Run results for 5 days). All three sets of triathlon results from that weekend arrived well before the Heights Run results, even though the Heights Run was held a day earlier.

Most of the server problems were identified and corrected in the last 24 hours or so, which has allowed the uploading of additional/new results. We are working diligently to get everything caught up. Rest assured that we do not embargo any results -- once we receive them we post them at the first opportunity we have.

to all the runners,

is it worth an additional $2 on your entry fee to have a race (not just this race) chip timed ?? that's about what it costs to get chip timing for a simple 5K like the Heights Fun Run. if you think it's worth the extra $2, let the race director know. there are close to a half dozen companies in TX that could do it (and i work for one of them). as it stands, the race director of the Heights Fun Run doesn't think it's worth the added cost.

Kent,
I see you working. You are trying to promote your chip timing crap. Fees are already steep as it is and you want to add an additional $2.00. What is wrong with you? Are you nuts? At the rate these entry fees are going up I am going to have to get a second job just to run a race.

Note the question marks after Kent's first sentence. He ASKED if people think that it's worth $2 to let the event director know.

Your vote against is duly noted -- but you didn't need to be rude.

Thanks for your opinion Terry, that's all I asked for. But, please be sure to tell the Race Directors, not me, that you're thrilled with their performance. They're the ones that count.

I don't know why Heights Fun Run went up on their registration fees this year (as someone noted earlier), but it wasn't due to "chip timing crap".

Good luck with that second job thing, and, no, I don't want to "super size" my order.

I heard this was a new race director - it was her first year to do this race alone. She chose to do 10 year age groups to continue giving the nice awards which cost quite a bit from what I hear. She has however, decided to include another age group for the "young-uns" so they wont' have to compete with the "big uns". It's either smaller, "who cares about them" awards, or the nice ones. Which I prefer. even if I didn't get one. When Lisa D'Angelo split to California - well, we lost a good race director. But, give the new one a chance...I am sure she will do better next year with a little volunteer support. Takes them to do it!
