Overall great race. Fantastic volunteers, post race party and course. The huge negative is the transition layout and its fairness. In order to be fair a race should group age groupers together. Because I was, unfortunately, a high number I was placed in the very back of transition. This meant double backing each transition. Because of this my fellow lower numbered age groupers had an advantage by being significantly closer to each entrance/exit. I estimate a total time of 45 seconds lost to lowered numbered competitors by having to cover so much more ground. This is a huge amount of time in a sprint tri. This was the difference between finishing fifth and third in my age group - and about seven places overall. A good race has to be fair to be considered great - and this race could be by grouping age groupers together.

Overall a good event, however I agree with the other two gentlemen regarding the T-area set up-a big disadvantage for those of us not in a tri club and with higher numbers. My wave (40-49/9-19) was too big for the beginning of the swim and it began too late.

I agree with the transition area issue. I lost 1 minute in T1 over last year. It did get hot on the run course especially since I was one of the last waves - a disadvantage too. I wondered why the waves were spaced out 7 minutes apart. I think they needed that space not only to keep the transition area from being too congested, but also to keep the running course congestion-free. I enjoyed the run course, but running on the sidewalk and a curvy trail can get very crowded with 1,000 triathletes hitting it at the same time. I think I preferred the heat over having to slow down many times trying to run around slower triathletes (maybe just me,but the run is my best event).

I am proud to have started and finished
all nine Cinco Ranch triathlons. Waves
should be spaced every five minutes to cut down on the heat on the run. Numbers should be assigned on a first-come first-served basis to get a
favorable spot in the transition area. My main focus is the food and the visuals at the post race party. Unfortunately, I was the next one in line for the Smoothie King that ran out.
I offerred to lick the cooler but was pleasantly rebuffed by the smiling
attendants, so my son and I had to make a quick visit to the aforementioned establishment on Mason Road.
Advice to the triathlon regulars and fast finishers -- take some risk and talk with the late comers. You might meet someone who is not a great triathlete, but who may be an interesting person. The pecking order of finish doesn't have much to do with a person's character. I can't
stand to see all of the little cliques
that form at the post race get togethers! Your comments are welcome.

I would definetly have to agree on the unfairness of the transition area. I actually had a great spot, but I like to have conditions as fair as possible when I race in order to leave out any ifs and buts.
Secondly, I believe a race of this size should be using chips for the timing. All the problems at the awards ceremony made this quite evident.
But a race is a race and I had a wonderful time doing it and will return again next year. The volunteers were wonderful and all the competitors were as well. right on.
