I've tried to contact the University, but I can't get any response. The coarse was too short, only partial results are available and contact people won't return phone calls. All this makes it hard for me to get excited about supporting this race next year. Unless you finish in the top XX number of finishers (usually about 30-50 for each sex), your finish isn't recorded. As always, best bet is to time yourself on your watch. At least then you know you have a time to put in your training log. And, yes, this could be a problem to some, but you know what, this is a totally FUN run. I have a blast every year, even last year in the pouring down rain. Kent 9/24/2002 09:33:25 RE: Cougar Classic IP: Logged Message: At the risk of being redundant (and sounding like I'm "advertising"), for complete, fast, acurate results, tell the RACE DIRECTOR that you want CHAMPIONCHIP timing of the events you participate in. Some races are sponsored by "other running store" and don't want the Run Wild Sports name at their race since they see it as competition, but Run Wild Sports TIMING is a separate entity (although it is connected). In any case, there ARE other CHAMPIONCHIP timing companies in this area (CC-Mid-South, RunTex Timing, etc.) so make sure the race director knows what the runners want (ie. COMPLETE results). YOU, along with thousands of others, make the events great, and anything the race directors can do to make the event better for YOU, is well worth it. But they are not the only way to time a race. Even one where every finisher is provided a time. But I don't think that's the real argument here. If you go to a race with the idea that complete results will not be provided, then don't get upset when that becomes a reality. Heck, the Cougar Classic doesn't even give age group awards. Why should they spend a lot of time (and money, unless you're willing to donate the chip timing) worrying about every single finisher, when they only give awards to the top 30 or so? I agree with the guy earlier: time yourself. It's not hard and you know you'll have a time -- even if your chip fails to register (hey, it's happened...). Personally, I just about cover my expenses and that's about all. Yeah, it's a business and most businesses are there to make money, but I help out because I enjoy being at races, and talking to people, and sometimes even making new friends. And, yeah, I think I'm giving back to the running community by providing a service to even those thousand or so people who didn't finish in the top 30-50. Sure, there are timing services that provide complete results, but I think CHAMPIONCHIP is the fastest, most accurate, and most reliable (ie., the best). If you don't think so, tell the RACE DIRECTOR that you DON'T want CHAMPIONCHIP timing. It's a free market, and open competition should be encouraged. We occasionally miss people, but we think in the end, our system still stands out above all others. I'm never going to win one or even place in a big race like this one , but I like knowing how I did relative to the group. I did time myself and was quite happy with my time, even adjusted for the shorter course, and that is why I was curious to see how close I came to the metal winners. Did I almost make the group that got the metals? I believe they gave the metals to the top 50 male and female finishers. If anyone knows what the male 50th place time was, I'd like to know.
