USA Triathlon has selected five age group men and five age group
women as nominees for its Endurance Athlete of the Year Awards,
which it will give out at the Endurance Awards on Feb. 5 at Sea
World in San Diego, Calif.
The special awards are separate from the USA Triathlon Age Group
Athlete of the Year Awards, which are chosen by the USA
Triathlon Age Group Commission. The awards are based on the
athletes' performances in 2004.
The nominees for female Endurance Athlete of the Year are Sabine
Bildstein (Austin, Texas), Sunny Gilbert (Boulder, Colo.);
Kristianna Gough (San Leandro, Calif.), Heather Haviland
(Waukesha, Wis.) and Shannon Rahlves (Truckee, Calif.)
The nominees for male Endurance Athlete of the Year are Brian
Bich (Duluth, Minn.), Michael Boehmer (Delafield, Wis.), Marc
Bonnet-Eymard (Orlando, Fla.), Christopher Martin (Princeton
Junction, N.J.) and Trenton Tollakson (Hutchinson, Kan.).
USA Triathlon is a sponsor of the event and will be sending
several representatives.

Hunt to Head Medical Commission
Dr. Andrew Hunt, M.D., FAAP, of Lake Bluff, Ill., has agreed to
serve as head of the USA Triathlon Medical Commission.
Dr. Hunt is fellowship trained and board certified in primary
care sports medicine and practices at the Illinois Bone & Joint
Institute in Glenview and Wilmette, Ill.
His fellowship training in sports/musculoskeletal medicine
allows him to determine if surgical management is required and
provide effective non-surgical treatment for sports and other
musculoskeletal injuries if appropriate. He sees a variety of
conditions from acute sports and overuse injuries to chronic
issues such as arthritis and joint pain as well as back pain.
Dr. Hunt has served several sports organizations including the
Chicago Marathon, Northwestern University and the U.S. men's
soccer team.
The purposes of the Medical Commission are:
-- Counsel USA Triathlon on all medical issues
pertaining to events.
-- Provide feedback to athletes with medical problems,
questions and concerns.
-- Coordinate medical support for major domestic and
international competitions.
-- Interact at various conferences held around the
country.
