Sunny Gilbert of Boulder, Colo., and Trenton Tollakson of
Hutchinson, Kan., thrived in the high heat to take the overall
titles at the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships,
presented by TriGenix Sports Nutritional Systems on Saturday in
Shreveport, La.Gilbert, 25, completed the 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run in 2
hours, 12 minutes and 7 seconds. Tollakson, 24, completed the
course in 1:57:36.
The top six finishers in each age group category qualified for
the 2005 International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon
Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii. Ten more qualifiers in each
age group will be chosen at the 2005 age group championships at
a site and date to be determined.
Tollakson was the bronze medalist in the men's 20-24 age group
at the ITU world triathlon championships in May in Portugal. He
finished eighth in the 20-24 age group in 2003.
Gilbert finished third at the USA Triathlon Collegiate National
Championships in April in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and first in
the women's collegiate division at the Wildflower Triathlon on
May 2 in Lake San Antonio, Calif.
