U.S. elite Logan Wealing took gold and Doug Friman and Jasmine Oeinck won silver at the International Triathlon Union (ITU) Rincon Triathlon Caribbean Cup on June 12 in Puerto Rico.

Wealing (Fowler, Ind.), an athlete in USA Triathlon's resident program at the Olympic Training Center, won his first ITU Continental Cup race in 1 hour, 48 minutes, 53 seconds.

Friman (Tucson, Ariz.) was second in 1:49:13 and Nicolas Becker of France was third in 1:49:41.

The U.S. men, and particularly those who are part of the USAT Development Program, dominated the top 10 as Under-23 National Team members Jarrod Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) and Matt Seymour (Pleasanton, Calif.) finished sixth and seventh respectively. U.S. elite Mark Fretta (Portland, Ore.) was eighth and Derek Kite (Malibu, Calif.) was ninth.

In the women's race, U23 triathlete Oeinck (Littleton, Colo.) was second behind Canada's Natasha Filliol, who finished in 2:03:07. Oeinck finished in 2:06:35 and Ayesha Rollinson of Canada was third in 2:07:12.

The U.S. women also had a strong showing in the top 10, as U23 team member Kelsey Withrow (Woodinville, Wash.) was fourth and Jenna Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.) was sixth.

Sarah Haskins (Boulder, Colo.), a resident athlete at the OTC, finished seventh.

"I could not be more excited about these results," said USA Triathlon National Teams Program Director Libby Burrell. "We have some great young athletes coming up through our pipeline."

Correction
Only Yasmine White (Arcata, Calif.) and Beau McDougall (Henderson, Nev.) qualified for the ITU Duathlon World Championships at the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships on June 13. Other junior elite world team members will be named later.

Keuka Lake Triathlon
The future of triathlon was plain to see at the Keuka Lake Triathlon on June 12 in New York, as junior athletes swept the men's overall podium in the short-course event, while scoring the first points in the 2005 USAT New England Junior Triathlon Championship Series.

Alister Ratcliff (17; Newtown, Conn.) won the overall title, as well as the Series Stage Winner's white jersey, in a time of 1:06:21. Racing for Endurance Sports, Ratcliff's win puts him on top of the leader board for the series after one stage.

Finishing in second overall was Vortex Racing's Rob Schmidt (15; Athens, N.Y.) in 1:08:31. Connecticut's Matt Watson (15) finished third overall and rounded out the junior podium in 1:08:56. Sean Teel (17), racing for Mid-Coast Multisport, was fourth overall in 1:09:12.

In the junior girls competition, Vortex Racing's Mary Casinghino (17; Manchester, N.H.) won in a time of 1:19:36. Vortex Racing's Heather Wolfe (19) of Honeoye Falls, N.Y., was second. Carolyn Stwertka (19) finished third.

In total, 18 junior athletes competed for points in the inaugural, six-stage series, which aims to increase junior athlete participation in triathlon and identify future champions.
