Michael McMahon and Nicola Appleton of Vinton, La., were the overall winners Sunday in Lake Charles, La., at the Gatorman Triathlon, which served as USA Triathlon's Sprint National Championship.

McMahon, 40, completed the 1k swim, 33k bike and 6k run in 1 hour, 28 minutes, 34 seconds. Michael Bergquist, 31, of Airway Heights, Wash., was second in 1:29:17 and Barry Knight, 38, of Paducah, Ky., was third in 1:30:56.

Appleton, 32, won the overall title in 1:38:41. Victoria Piper, 36, of Dallas, Texas, was second in 1:41:03 and Lynnie Terry, 43, of Houston, Texas, was third in 1:41:43.
