The BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series announces today that all Coed teams competing in the Adventure Sprints Series will be eligible to win prize money. Amateur Coed teams are now qualified to win a piece of the $5,000 prize purse awarded at each BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprint and the $20,000 awarded as the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprints Series overall prize purse.

In addition, the BALANCE BAR Adventure Sprints Series has made the overall championship more accessible. To be eligible for the Coed division BALANCE BAR Adventure Sprints Series Championship, each team must participate in at least six Adventure Sprint events, one being the Series Final. If a Coed team participates in more than six races, the six best results will count toward overall point accumulation.

"Now all Coed teams have a shot at the largest purse prize that the US has to offer in sprint adventure racing," said Race Director Nick Moore. "It's exciting for the BALANCE BAR Adventure Sprints to give athletes across America, not only a chance to compete against the best adventure racers, but also a chance to win some prize money along the way."

Prize money will be awarded to the top five finishing teams at each Adventure Sprint event in the Coed division only. Adventure Sprint teams outside of the Coed division must compete in four of the eight events, including Los Angeles, to be eligible for the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprints Series championship.

The BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprints start the year in Austin, TX on May 8-9 and travel to New York, NY, on May 22-23, Atlanta, GA on June 19-20, Portland, OR on July 24, Sacramento, CA on August 14-15, Hartford, CT on September 18-19 and Richmond, VA on October 2-3 with the Series final in Los Angeles, CA on October 16th. At each event, the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprint offers a spectator festival, give-aways and the BALANCE BAR(R) Kids Adventure, a race for children between the ages of 4-12 years.

The 2004 BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Race Series awards a grand total of $170,000 in prize money. Of this total amount, the BALANCE BAR(R) Adventure Sprints has a total prize purse of $60,000 and the BALANCE BAR(R) 24-Hour Adventure Series carries an overall prize purse of $110,000.
